A faulty cooker? Start with the model and symptoms

Electric cooker repairs

Oven cold, grill not working or a hob ring playing up? Tell us which part of your electric cooker has stopped working.

Send Upkeepone the postcode, make, model and a short description of the fault. We will check the appropriate engineer and visit scope before an appointment is agreed.

London, Essex and Kent are our priority areas. Other covered areas and attendance conditions are explained below.

Send your cooker details

Request a cooker repair callback

Include your postcode, make, model, affected function and any warning signs. Tell us if the cooker is gas or dual fuel.

Our team will be in touch as soon as possible to discuss your needs.

Submitting an enquiry does not confirm an appointment. We will check the appliance, location and available engineer first.

The whole appliance matters

Which part of your cooker is affected?

This service is for faults with an existing electric cooker, including freestanding appliances with an oven, grill and hob in one unit. If only one function fails, say which one and whether the rest of the cooker still works. Do not run it again simply to test a suspected unsafe fault.

Oven or grill trouble

Describe a cold oven, uneven cooking, a grill that no longer heats or a fan making an unusual noise. Tell us which oven cavity or cooking setting was affected when you noticed it.

Hob or control trouble

Name the ring or cooking zone, any displayed message and whether a control is damaged or unresponsive. Tell us whether the hob is ceramic, solid-plate or induction, if known.

Loss of power or tripping

Explain whether the whole cooker went off, its display went blank or a protective device tripped. Include any heat, burning smell, crackling or visible damage in the enquiry.

These observations help us assess the enquiry; they do not identify a faulty part. An appliance defect, connection problem and supply fault can need different work.

Make the first enquiry useful

What to send before booking a cooker repair

  • Full postcode and whether the property is a home, rental or business
  • Cooker make, full model number and approximate age
  • Whether it is fully electric, gas or dual fuel
  • The function affected and when the problem started
  • Any error message, tripping or signs of damage already observed
  • Previous repairs and any manufacturer warranty or service cover
  • Tenant contact, parking, stairs and access restrictions
  • Whether the cooker is built in, freestanding or a range cooker

A model number is more useful than a brand alone. Read it from the manual, purchase paperwork or an accessible label, where safe. Do not pull out a heavy cooker, remove a panel or reach behind it to obtain a photograph.

Gas, dual-fuel or commercial equipment?

Tell us at the start. We need to confirm the appliance, fuel and work required before accepting the job. This electrical repair page does not promise gas-side repairs or support for every catering appliance.

Know what the quotation covers

How much will a cooker repair cost?

A useful price starts with the actual appliance and fault. There is no single repair charge that can cover every cooker, replacement component or access arrangement.

Confirm the initial visit

  • Attendance or diagnostic charge and included labour
  • Whether the quoted total includes VAT
  • Any travel or access-related charge
  • What happens if the appliance cannot be repaired

Agree any further work

  • Parts and additional labour
  • Availability of model-specific components
  • Whether another visit is required and its cost
  • Any warranty offered for the particular repair

Ask for the findings and proposed cost before authorising extra work. For an older cooker, compare that cost with its overall condition and a suitable replacement, including connection work. Check any existing manufacturer cover before booking an independent repair.

1. Describe the problem

Send the cooker details, symptoms, postcode and access information.

2. Confirm the appointment

Agree the engineer, visit purpose and charging basis before attendance.

3. Decide on the repair

Use the assessment and proposed cost to decide whether to proceed.

Burning smell, damage or repeated tripping?

Stop using a cooker that may be unsafe

Do not ignore scorching, unusual heat, crackling, electric shocks or a circuit that trips when the cooker is used. Switch off at an accessible cooker isolator only if you can do so safely. Keep away from damaged or wet switches and do not repeatedly reset the circuit.

Do not remove covers, replace internal parts or bypass safety controls. If there is a fire or immediate danger, leave the area and call 999. The callback form is not an emergency reporting service.

Electrical Safety First highlights damaged cooking appliances and warning signs such as arcing, overheating and circuit-breaker operation. For equipment used at work, HSE advises stopping use when safety is in doubt and arranging a competent check.

Qualifications relevant to your cooker

Our engineers are qualified and registered with NAPIT or NICEIC where applicable. The engineer must have the appropriate competence for the appliance and work involved; electrical registration alone does not establish expertise in every cooker model.

HSE explains that competence depends on the task, training and relevant experience. Confirm the agreed work and any model-specific limitations when booking.

Electric cooker repair FAQs

How much does an electric cooker repair cost?

The price depends on the cooker model, fault, access and work required. Ask for the initial visit charge, VAT position, included labour and any travel charge before booking. Replacement parts, extra labour and return visits should be agreed separately unless the written quotation includes them.

Can you repair my make of electric cooker?

Send the make and full model number before booking. We need to confirm whether an appropriately qualified engineer can attend and whether the required work is within scope. Parts availability and specialist manufacturer requirements can affect whether a repair is practical.

Why does my cooker trip the electricity?

Tripping can involve the cooker, its connection or the circuit supplying it. The symptom alone does not establish the cause. Stop using the cooker and arrange competent assessment; do not keep resetting the protective device to try to continue cooking.

Is a cooker repair the same as an oven repair or a new installation?

A freestanding electric cooker usually combines an oven, grill and hob in one appliance. A separate built-in oven has its own repair route. Connecting a replacement cooker or altering its supply is installation work and should be quoted separately from repairing the existing appliance.

Should I repair or replace an older cooker?

Compare the diagnosed fault and proposed repair cost with the condition of the rest of the cooker, parts availability and the cost of a suitable replacement. Include connection work and any supply alterations in that comparison. A repair cannot be promised before the appliance has been assessed.

Where can I enquire about electric cooker repairs?

London, Essex and Kent are the priority areas. Hertfordshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Sussex are also covered, with other UK areas considered by request. Attendance depends on the postcode, installation, access, travel and appropriately qualified engineer availability.

Tell us what has gone wrong with your cooker

Have the postcode, make and model to hand, along with the symptoms and any access restrictions. We will use those details to check the suitable engineer and quotation basis.
