Commercial gas inspections for London businesses
Arrange a commercial gas safety inspection for your London premises with the fuel, appliances and report agreed in advance. Tell us whether you manage the building, operate the business or act for the landlord, so the quotation can identify the equipment and areas you are responsible for.
Choose the inspection for the installation
A commercial gas certificate records an agreed inspection. CP42 is associated with catering checks; it should not be used as a catch-all name for an office boiler room, a mixed-use building or every LPG installation.
- Commercial kitchen inspections: describe the cooking appliances, ventilation and any gas interlock, including equipment used outside normal service hours.
- Commercial boiler and heating checks: identify the plant, fuel and areas served, including any shared heating or hot water.
- Fixed commercial LPG inspections: include cylinder or bulk-supply details; tank and specialist pipework work need their own scope.
- Mobile catering LPG checks: give the location where the vehicle, trailer or stall will be inspected, rather than only its business address.
For the wider inspection and report options, use our commercial gas certification overview. Specialist work is accepted only after the installation and relevant engineer competence have been checked.

Plan access before arranging the London visit
A postcode alone cannot show how an engineer will reach the equipment. Send the building entrance, site contact and any arrangements needed with the managing agent or security team.
- Parking and deliveries: explain loading restrictions, available parking and any permits or building delivery slots.
- Plant and meter access: identify basement, roof or locked plant rooms, meter cupboards, keys, escorts and any permit-to-work procedure.
- Trading and occupiers: provide kitchen operating hours and any restrictions on interrupting heating, hot water or gas use. Shared supplies may need coordination with other occupiers.
- Equipment information: list every appliance, its location and fuel. Previous records, known defects and recent alterations help establish what needs checking.
Tell us about any access constraints before accepting a quote. Safe access and an agreed testing window may be needed before all checks can be completed.
What determines the cost in London?
The quotation depends on appliance number and type, natural gas or LPG, the required tests, access time and travel arrangements. A single appliance in an accessible unit is a different booking from several kitchens or shared heating plant spread across a building.
Our commercial gas price information explains the published starting scopes. Request a written quotation showing the included work, VAT and any agreed travel or access charges. There is no single London-wide price for every installation.
Agree the checks and the written record
The inspection may involve appliance operation, relevant safety controls, combustion, flues, ventilation and the applicable installation tests. Confirm which appliances and supply points are included, together with any gas tightness or catering interlock checks required for that installation.
Servicing, repairs, replacement parts, purging and specialist extraction or ventilation assessments are not automatically part of an inspection booking. These need an agreed scope; separating them does not remove tests required to assess gas safety.
The record should show the site, equipment examined, findings and inspection limits. Defects may require warning documentation, restrictions on use and remedial work. A visit cannot promise a satisfactory result or immediate completion of every document.
Check the duty, not just the certificate name
Business gas safety involves maintaining equipment safely and arranging competent work. A lease or insurance policy can also specify evidence, but it does not replace the applicable legal duties.
If a shop, office or restaurant shares gas equipment with rented accommodation, explain that arrangement when enquiring. Landlord duties for relevant residential accommodation need separate consideration from a purely commercial inspection.
Read HSE’s gas safety guidance for employers, catering maintenance and inspection guidance and landlord gas safety responsibilities. These explain different duties and settings rather than one certificate rule for all businesses.
London coverage and enquiries beyond the capital
We consider commercial gas enquiries across central, north, south, east and west London. Send the full postcode and installation details for a decision on the actual job; a borough name does not establish engineer availability.
- Priority areas: London, Essex and Kent are the focus for regular enquiries.
- Also covered: Hertfordshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Sussex, subject to the proposed installation and visit.
- Other UK areas: enquiries are considered by request, with arrangements assessed individually.
For natural gas, commercial catering, heating and LPG enquiries alike, attendance depends on the postcode, installation, access, travel and appropriately qualified engineer availability. Fuel and appliance categories must match the work; an LPG enquiry is not automatically suitable for an engineer attending a natural-gas job.
Request a quote for your London premises
Include the postcode, premises use, natural gas or LPG, complete appliance list, access arrangements and required inspection or document. If a landlord, insurer or facilities team set a deadline, send their wording and the date needed.
Call 0207 127 5128 or send an inspection enquiry. Availability, price and documentation arrangements are confirmed against the job details.
