CP44 inspection costs and quotation advice

What should you budget for a CP44 inspection?

Upkeepone’s CP44 inspection fee starts from £155 + VAT (£186 including VAT) for one declared LPG appliance, accessible pipework and the appropriate record or report. Additional appliances start from £45 + VAT (£54 including VAT) each during the same agreed visit. Ask for the current total in writing for your vehicle or trailer, including travel and any additional work.

Upkeepone’s CP44 starting fees

Upkeepone’s starting fee for one declared LPG appliance, accessible pipework and the appropriate record or report is from £155 + VAT (£186 including VAT). It gives you a budgeting starting point; the written quotation confirms the rate and work for your own setup.

The additional-appliance figure is from £45 + VAT (£54 including VAT) for a further declared appliance during the same agreed attendance. Do not assume the same charge applies to a separate visit or a different installation.

The VAT-inclusive figures above use 20% VAT. Confirm whether travel, parking and any other charges are included in your total. Payment covers the agreed work and documentation of the findings; satisfactory paperwork and a requester’s acceptance cannot be promised before inspection.

When someone asks for CP44

Check that the requested CP44 record fits the installation

A vehicle or trailer request needs a vehicle or trailer assessment

CORGI’s CP44 form records safety checks on a mobile catering vehicle or trailer. A freestanding stall, gazebo or fixed restaurant kitchen needs its installation and required paperwork assessed separately. Send the original request so Upkeepone can establish which inspection can be supported before pricing it.

For example, a venue may ask for CP44 for a named trailer, while your earlier quotation covers only an appliance service. Compare the unit, appliance list, checks and resulting document. Ask the venue whether the proposed record meets its requirement and how recent the inspection needs to be.

For budgets based on different numbers of appliances and wider temporary setups, use the existing mobile catering inspection budgeting guide.

Six details can materially change the quote

Six details to compare in a CP44 quotation

Postcode and travel

Give the address where the vehicle or trailer will be inspected. Ask for travel, parking and congestion costs to be identified, especially if your trading pitch is elsewhere.

Unit and LPG supply

Identify the vehicle or trailer and describe the LPG cylinders, storage, regulator, hoses and pipework. A different setting may require another inspection and report.

Appliance list

List all equipment, including unused connected appliances. The types and work involved determine the categories and time required; support must be checked rather than assumed.

Access and condition

Explain locked compartments, missing appliance information, recent alterations and known defects. These can leave checks incomplete or require a different scope.

Requested paperwork

Name the organisation asking for CP44 and forward its wording. Confirm what document the price includes and how any inspection limitations will be recorded.

Additional work

Ask how servicing, fault investigation, repairs, replacement parts or another visit would be charged. Agree additional work before it begins.

Read the quotation before booking

What to have listed in the written quotation

Inspection and findings

  • The identified vehicle or trailer, fuel arrangement and appliance list
  • The required installation and appliance safety checks
  • The necessary tests, relevant ventilation, flues, safety devices and interlocks
  • Access or evidence needed to complete those checks
  • The record or report supplied, including findings and limitations

Confirm separately

  • The total including VAT, travel and access charges
  • Servicing, diagnosis, repairs, parts and installation changes
  • Separate gas tightness testing or purging work, where required beyond the inspection scope
  • Extraction maintenance, cleaning or a separate specialist assessment
  • Further testing, revised documentation and return attendance

A quotation must allow for the safety checks required for the installation. An inspection should not omit a necessary check to fit a headline price. Ask the engineer to explain the scope and any separate work; a certificate booking does not automatically include every service listed above.

Prepare the enquiry

Give the inspection address and a workable access plan

Explain where the unit will stand, who can unlock it and when the equipment will be available. Ask which appliances may need to be shut down, what needs to be accessible and whether inspection can fit around trading. The sequence and any interruption depend on the installation and required checks; appointment availability must be confirmed.

Existing photographs and documents can help with a quote, but they do not replace inspection. Do not dismantle equipment or approach a suspected leak to obtain pictures.

The inspection decides the outcome

Budget for the findings as well as the first attendance

Scope completed

Record issued

Ask how and when the record of the completed checks will be supplied. It should identify the inspected equipment, findings and any limits, whether or not the outcome is satisfactory.

Evidence or access missing

Decision incomplete

If access or information prevents completion, ask which checks remain outstanding and what is needed next. The booking terms should explain charges for incomplete attendance and a return visit.

Defects found

Repair or restriction

The engineer should explain defects and the action needed. Unsafe equipment may have to be isolated or restricted. Agree any repairs, further testing and reattendance charges separately before work continues.

Plan the evidence date with the requester

Plan inspection dates from the equipment and the requester’s needs

HSE says catering gas inspection periods should reflect the equipment, its use, current industry practice and manufacturer recommendations, with annual inspection a reasonable general minimum. An event, venue, insurer or contract may require more recent evidence, while alterations, damage or safety concerns can require earlier attention.

Competence for the work

Check LPG, commercial mobile catering and appliance categories

For an LPG catering vehicle or trailer, check the attending engineer’s current ID card and register entry for LPG, commercial mobile catering and the relevant appliances and work. Upkeepone must confirm a suitable engineer is available for the declared setup before agreeing attendance.

Postcode-qualified enquiries

CP44 LPG enquiries by inspection postcode

Priority areas: London, Essex and Kent.
Other covered locations: Hertfordshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Sussex.
Other UK areas: considered by request.
These areas apply to suitable LPG enquiries. Attendance depends on the full postcode, installation, access, travel and availability of an engineer qualified for the work.

Send the inspection address even if the unit normally trades in another county. Location alone does not confirm a booking or a fixed travel charge. This guide does not confirm the same coverage for natural gas work.

If LPG may be escaping

A suspected LPG leak needs the emergency route

Leave danger and call from a safe place

For fire, immediate danger, an uncontrolled release or any doubt, leave the area and call 999 from safety. For a suspected LPG leak, contact the LPG supplier’s emergency number. Avoid ignition sources and do not approach unsafe equipment to investigate or isolate it.

Do not resume use until a competent person confirms it is safe. A routine Upkeepone quotation enquiry is not an emergency report. Read the LPG emergency actions guide for further guidance.

Price, scope and booking questions

CP44 gas certificate cost FAQs

How much does a CP44 gas safety certificate cost?
Upkeepone’s starting fees, confirmed on 13 October 2026, are £155 + VAT (£186 including VAT) for one declared LPG appliance, accessible pipework and the appropriate record or report, with additional appliances from £45 + VAT (£54 including VAT) each during the same agreed visit. Use them as a starting point for budgeting. Ask Upkeepone to confirm the vehicle or trailer scope, travel and any extra work in a written quotation.
Does the CP44 price include VAT and travel?
The guide shows both the net figure and a total including 20% VAT. It does not establish one travel-inclusive national price. Your quotation should state the overall total, including VAT, and identify travel, parking, congestion or access charges so that you can compare like-for-like offers.
Is a CP44 quotation the same as an appliance servicing quotation?
Check the work and document listed in each offer. An appliance service and a vehicle or trailer safety inspection can involve different scopes. Ask whether the quote covers the identified unit, all declared appliances, required safety checks and the record requested; servicing should be agreed separately if needed.
Can a gazebo or freestanding stall use the same CP44 inspection price?
Do not assume it can. CORGI’s CP44 form is for a mobile catering vehicle or trailer. A gazebo, freestanding stall or fixed kitchen needs the installation, fuel, appliance list and required record assessed separately. Send those details so Upkeepone can establish whether it can support the work and which quotation is appropriate.
Are repairs, purging and extraction work included in the CP44 fee?
Necessary safety checks must be addressed for the installation. Repairs, servicing, parts, separate purging or tightness-testing work, extraction maintenance and specialist assessments are not automatically included in a certificate booking. The engineer should explain the required inspection scope and identify any additional work and charges before it starts.
What happens to the quoted cost if checks cannot be completed?
Ask for the booking terms to explain incomplete attendance, missing access or information, and further visits. If the agreed checks cannot be completed, establish what remains outstanding and how completion or remedial work will be charged. This guide does not promise a free return visit, refund or satisfactory result.
Can the CP44 inspection take place while we are trading?
Discuss this before booking. Access, safe working arrangements and tests may require appliances to be stopped or the gas supply isolated. Ask what must be available and what interruption is expected for your setup. A requested deadline does not confirm an appointment, a completion time or a satisfactory inspection result.
Does paying for CP44 mean the record is valid for exactly one year?
No single CP44 expiry rule applies to every request. HSE advises inspection intervals based on equipment, use, industry practice and manufacturer recommendations, with annual inspection a reasonable general minimum for catering gas equipment. An organiser or insurer may require more recent evidence, and changes or safety concerns may need earlier attention.
Which engineer qualifications should I check before accepting the quote?
For an LPG catering vehicle or trailer, check the individual’s current Gas Safe ID card and register entry for LPG, commercial mobile catering and the relevant appliance and work categories. A business registration or a qualification for a different setting does not establish that the attending engineer can carry out the declared work.
What should I send for a CP44 quotation?
Give the full inspection postcode, vehicle or trailer details, LPG supply arrangement and every appliance. Add access restrictions, existing records, changes and known faults. Forward the requester’s wording and deadline, and explain when the equipment can be made available. Use existing safe photographs if helpful; do not disturb equipment to obtain them.

Ask for the current total

Request a quote for the inspection your vehicle or trailer needs

Use the CP44 inspection enquiry page to send the requested record, inspection postcode, equipment and access details. Upkeepone can then check the work it can support and the availability of a suitably qualified engineer before confirming a quotation.

An enquiry does not confirm availability, price, scope, a satisfactory inspection result or acceptance by an event, insurer, council or other requester.
