UK LPG conversion evidence guide

Start online—but do not buy safety paperwork without the work

You can send records and photographs, receive a proposed scope, book attendance and sometimes receive the completed document electronically. What cannot happen online is the physical gas work, inspection and testing required to establish that an actual installation is safe and suitable for the evidence requested.

The direct answer

Online administration is not an online inspection

The word "online" can refer to three different stages. Only the administrative stages can be remote; the required work and checks still depend on the real appliance or installation.

Yes: send evidence online

Submit the postcode, appliance data, manufacturer instructions, installer history, photographs, existing records and the exact request from the landlord, venue, insurer or other organisation.

No: do not purchase a remote pass

Photographs and a questionnaire cannot prove concealed work, gas soundness, pressure, combustion, flue performance, safety-device operation or the complete installation under test.

Sometimes: receive the record digitally

A completed record may be sent electronically where appropriate. That is delivery after the required checks, not evidence created instead of them.

Separate convenience from safety evidence

What can happen online and what needs physical work

Can be handled remotely

  • Initial enquiry and route selection
  • Evidence and photograph review
  • Checking the likely engineer categories
  • Proposed scope and quotation
  • Appointment and access planning
  • Electronic delivery of an appropriate completed record

Needs the real installation

  • Gas work or appliance conversion
  • Identification of the installed equipment
  • Inspection of accessible installation components
  • Operational and safety testing required by the scope
  • Diagnosis and remedial work
  • The engineer's decision on the final outcome

"LPG conversion certificate" is not one universal document

Choose the conversion route before requesting paperwork

Appliance route

Fuel conversion of an appliance

A specific appliance is proposed to change from natural gas or another supported fuel to LPG. Send the exact model, data plate, manufacturer instructions, kit reference and installer details. Suitability must not be guessed.

Installation route

New or altered LPG setup

An LPG supply or appliance installation has been created or changed in a property, catering unit, trailer, horse box, caravan or workplace. The work history, supply, pipework, ventilation and intended use matter.

Automotive route

Vehicle engine or Autogas conversion

This is automotive propulsion work and is outside the Upkeepone appliance-installation service. GOV.UK sets out road-vehicle requirements, while insurers and licensing bodies can require their own evidence.

A remote review is only as useful as the evidence

Send the conversion history before asking for attendance

Do not hide who carried out the work, whether the appliance manufacturer supported the change or what remains inaccessible. Missing or unsuitable evidence can change the enquiry from a certificate request to investigation, remedial work or a declined route.

A later engineer does not erase the original work history

Do not ask for retrospective "sign-off" of unknown gas work

Registration and specific competence still matter

HSE says it is not acceptable for a Gas Safe registered engineer knowingly to sign off gas work carried out by a person who was not registered where registration was required. A later inspection can identify evidence, accessibility, defects and possible next steps, but it does not rewrite who carried out the original work or guarantee that acceptable paperwork can be issued.

Use online tools for qualification, not shortcuts

Five steps from online enquiry to a defensible outcome

1. Identify

Name the route

State exactly what was converted and why evidence is needed.

2. Document

Send the history

Provide models, instructions, installer evidence, photographs and previous records.

3. Qualify

Check suitability

Upkeepone checks the postcode, setting and relevant LPG trade availability.

4. Attend

Complete agreed work

The installation must be accessible for the required inspection, testing or remedial work.

5. Record

Receive the outcome

Appropriate evidence follows the completed scope and findings—not the online payment.

Postcode-qualified conversion enquiries

Where Upkeepone can consider appliance and installation routes

The online stage can begin from anywhere in the UK, but attendance remains postcode- and competence-qualified. Appliance and installation conversion enquiries are handled regularly in London, Essex and Kent; Hertfordshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Sussex can be considered when the right LPG trade is available. Other UK postcodes are reviewed by request after the model, permitted conversion, work history, site access and physical inspection or remedial scope are clear.

Online LPG conversion certificate questions

Can I get an LPG conversion certificate entirely online?
No online form, payment or photograph bundle can replace gas work, inspection or testing that must be completed on the real installation. You can send evidence, obtain a proposed scope, arrange attendance and sometimes receive the completed record electronically, but a valid outcome depends on the correct work and checks being carried out.
Can the completed LPG record be sent electronically?
Yes, some completed records can be delivered electronically where the record type and recipient allow it. HSE confirms that landlord gas safety records may be stored and provided electronically subject to its conditions. Electronic delivery is different from issuing safety evidence without completing the required checks.
Are photographs enough for an LPG conversion certificate?
Photographs are useful for triage, quotation and checking whether the enquiry may be suitable. They cannot show every hidden connection, prove operating pressure, combustion, soundness, safety-device operation or the condition of the installation under test. An engineer decides what physical inspection and testing are required.
Can an engineer sign off LPG gas work completed by somebody else?
HSE states that it is not acceptable for a Gas Safe registered engineer knowingly to sign off gas work carried out by a person who was not registered where registration was required. Send the installer details and work history honestly so the correct investigation or remedial route can be considered.
Can any natural-gas appliance be converted to LPG?
No suitability should be assumed. Send the exact make, model, data plate, manufacturer's conversion instructions and specified kit evidence. If the manufacturer does not support conversion of that model, or the evidence is missing, the proposed conversion route may not be appropriate.
Does Upkeepone provide certificates for vehicle-engine LPG conversions?
No. Automotive LPG or Autogas propulsion conversion is a separate vehicle-specialist route. GOV.UK explains that aftermarket vehicle LPG systems must meet road-vehicle requirements, while insurers or licensing authorities may ask for specific conversion evidence. Use a competent automotive LPG converter.
Can a mobile-catering LPG conversion be certified online?
The enquiry and evidence review can start online, but the catering-unit installation and appliances must be physically available for whatever inspection and testing the required record calls for. Send the complete appliance schedule, cylinders, regulators, pipework, ventilation, conversion history and organiser's deadline.
What should I send for an LPG conversion enquiry?
Send the full postcode, property or unit type, intended use, fuel before and after conversion, every appliance make and model, data-plate photographs, manufacturer instructions or kit details, installer information, LPG supply, regulator, pipework, ventilation, flue, previous records, access and the exact paperwork request.
How much does an LPG conversion assessment cost?
A reliable quote needs the conversion type and evidence first. Cost depends on the appliance or installation, number of appliances, accessibility, testing scope, missing records, travel and whether diagnosis or remedial work is required. Only written inclusions should be treated as part of the quoted visit.
Which areas can Upkeepone consider for LPG conversion enquiries?
Evidence can be sent online from any UK postcode, but that does not confirm an on-site service. Upkeepone regularly considers appliance and installation conversion enquiries in London, Essex and Kent. Hertfordshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Sussex can be checked when the right LPG trade is available. For another UK postcode, send the exact site, model, fuel change, installation history and required record so the need for physical work and travel can be assessed.

Start online, but expect the real installation to matter

Read Upkeepone's live Google results in their original context, then send the postcode, conversion history, manufacturer evidence, installer details, every appliance and the paperwork requested. Upkeepone can review the enquiry and check whether a suitable LPG trade can consider the next step. An online form, payment or photograph review is not a certificate and cannot guarantee a satisfactory outcome.

Start with an honest evidence review

Send the conversion history, appliance data and postcode

Include who completed the work, manufacturer evidence, the full installation, existing records, the requester and deadline. Upkeepone will check whether a suitable appliance or installation route can be considered.

An enquiry, payment or photograph review does not confirm attendance, suitability or a successful certificate outcome. Automotive LPG propulsion conversion is outside this service.
