Faults and repairs

What to send before booking

Commercial gas work needs the right engineer, fuel type and appliance category. Send practical details first so the enquiry can be scoped correctly.

  • Full site address and postcode.
  • Premises use, including any sleeping accommodation or specialist plant. This helps us check suitability rather than assume every installation is supported.
  • Fuel type if known: natural gas, LPG or mixed setup.
  • Appliance list, boiler make/model, catering equipment list or fault description.
  • Access contact, trading hours, parking/loading notes and any induction requirements.
  • Any insurer, landlord, tenant, buyer, venue or managing-agent deadline.

How Upkeepone handles the enquiry

We review the equipment and requested work before confirming the scope and price. An inspection records the findings; a fault visit may identify further work or parts that need a separate quotation. A report can record defects and must not be mistaken for confirmation that everything has passed.

  • Confirm the premises type, gas work needed and urgency.
  • Check whether the enquiry is natural gas, LPG or commercial catering.
  • Clarify appliance count, access and paperwork requirements.
  • Quote or advise the next practical booking step.

Gas Safe and commercial responsibility

HSE guidance says poorly installed or maintained gas appliances can create risks including fire, explosion, gas leaks and carbon monoxide. It also says gas work in workplaces such as shops and restaurants must be carried out by a suitably qualified Gas Safe registered engineer.

Check the Gas Safe Register

Natural gas, LPG and catering work

The right engineer route depends on the fuel, premises and equipment. Commercial catering, LPG and boiler work can involve different qualifications, access needs and paperwork.

  • Tell us if the site uses LPG cylinders, bulk LPG or mains gas.
  • List catering appliances separately from heating and hot-water equipment.
  • Mention any failed inspection, warning notice or urgent trading deadline.

Useful commercial gas links

Move to the most relevant page if your enquiry is certificate-led, kitchen-led or LPG-led.

Check the engineer and agree the work

Gas Safe registration alone does not establish suitability for every commercial appliance. Before work starts, check the engineer’s current ID card and the relevant work categories for your fuel and equipment. Give us the appliance make and model, and a data-plate photograph if you can take one safely without removing covers.

Equipment and fuel

Identify boilers, water heaters and catering appliances separately. Let us know about specialist equipment so we can establish whether an appropriately qualified engineer is available.

Scope and cost

Ask whether the quote covers an inspection, servicing or fault investigation. Repairs, parts, pipework testing, purging and specialist extraction or interlock assessments need an agreed scope; they are not included simply because an engineer attends.

Access and trading

Arrange access to the equipment and relevant controls. Tell us when the kitchen or heating can be taken out of use, and agree any interruption with your site contact before the visit.

For the distinction between a completed landlord check and outstanding repairs, see HSE’s guidance on gas safety check records.

Suspected gas leak?

Do not wait for a website enquiry reply. For a suspected natural gas leak, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999; for LPG, contact your LPG supplier’s emergency service. Follow the HSE emergency advice and do not turn the supply back on until a competent person has dealt with the leak.

Where to request a commercial gas engineer

Send the postcode with your equipment details so we can check attendance for the actual job, whether it involves natural gas or LPG.

Priority enquiry areas

London, Essex and Kent are the first areas to check when planning a commercial gas visit with Upkeepone.

Other covered counties

We also cover Hertfordshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Sussex, subject to suitability and availability for the requested work.

Elsewhere in the UK

Enquiries outside these counties are considered by request. Provide the full site address so we can assess the travel and practical arrangements.

Attendance is confirmed individually, taking account of postcode, installation, access, travel and appropriately qualified engineer availability. A listed county does not guarantee an appointment or support for every appliance category.

Commercial gas engineer FAQs

Short answers before you call or send the quote form.

Who can carry out commercial gas work?

For workplaces such as restaurants, shops, schools and hospitals, HSE guidance says gas work must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer who is qualified for the work. The correct qualification depends on the appliance and site.

Can I book a commercial gas engineer for a certificate?

Yes. Send the premises address, certificate needed, appliance list, fuel type and deadline. Upkeepone will confirm the right commercial gas certificate route before attendance.

Do you handle commercial catering gas enquiries?

Yes. We handle enquiries for restaurants, cafes, takeaways and catering premises. Include the appliance list, fuel type, access time and whether CP42 or other catering gas paperwork has been requested.

Can you help with LPG commercial gas equipment?

Yes. Send details of the LPG setup, appliance type, cylinder or bulk supply information if known, and the site postcode so the correct LPG route can be checked.

What details should I send for a fault or repair?

Send the site address, appliance or boiler details, fault symptoms, any warning notice, when the issue started and whether the site is trading or closed.

Can paperwork always be issued after a visit?

The documentation depends on the work completed and its findings. It may record defects or limitations rather than a satisfactory result. Where a landlord gas safety check has been completed, HSE says the record should not be withheld while repairs are awaited.
